Content Collections
Course materials uploaded into Learn can be managed to help avoid duplication of content and allow for materials to be re-used easily.
Course Content
The Content Collection is the file manager area of Learn which allows users to store files and folders for each course. You can store content for multiple courses you teach on and can share content across courses with other users.
There are different areas in the Content Collection some of which you may not have access to:
- Specific Course Content e.g. EASC080082014-5SV1SEM2
- All Courses Content
- All Organisations Content
- Institution Content
Opening the Content Collection will show a folder for each Course that allows you to see the content. Instructors will see folders for the courses they are teaching when they access the Content Collection.
Institution Content Collection
If you have files and resources that are associated with multiple courses it is possible to save these materials to a directory that is available at School or department level.
Example:
- Programme Handbooks
- School Code of Conduct
- Datasets
- Multimedia Packages
Files stored in the institution content collection can be linked to multiple courses and have a variety of access permissions associated with them. When a file is updated in the Institution Content Collection, the change is applied to all courses because the courses link to the single location.
Institution Content Collections are not currently available for all Schools and units. If you would like to discuss this in more detail please contact the IS Helpline.
Instructors can store, share, and publish content within course folders in the Content Collection throughout courses they are an instructor on in Learn.
Once you have added content to any course, it is stored in your Content Collection for re-use in any other course in which you are an instructor. If you wish to update a file, doing this once in your content collection will change the file across all of your courses.
If you wish to review the items in your content collection, click “Content collection” from the navigation pane.
You can upload files to this area if you click on the course you wish to add files to, then click “Upload” to add files.
If you wish to add a file from your content collection to your course, when you are adding an item, select “browse from content collection” rather than “browse my computer”.
