Self-service Media Hopper Create Recording
I want help to create a pre-recorded webcam video with the option of supplementary slides, and upload it as a standalone educational resource using Media Hopper Create desktop recorder.
What is a Self-service Media Hopper Create Recording?
We recommend using the self-service Media Hopper Create Recording for a short single person lecture-style video which can incorporate supplemental slides. We advise the creation of digestible chunks of up to 10 minutes to increase student engagement.
The videos will be recorded through the Media Hopper Create desktop recorder and made available in the user's playlist. We will not make any post-production edits.
The final output of a self-service Media Hopper Create Recording is similar to a lecture-style video that you might record from home. The advantage of using the self-service recording booth is that you will record your video in a controlled, soundproofed environment with a high-quality webcam, microphone and lighting to assist in creating a more professional recording. You will also have the benefit of having our professional Media Team on hand to support you with getting set up and if you have any technical questions during your booking.
Lead time for booking: 5-10 working days.
Studio availability: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 - 12:00, 13:00 - 15:30.
Post-production: Your recording will be available on the day in Media Hopper Create.
Self-service Media Hopper Create Recording: Preparing and what to expect
If you are planning to make a presentation with slides, you should prepare notes and practice your presentation prior to attending the recording session to ensure that it is clear and concise. A more practiced presentation will help make your video professional and engaging. Additionally, these detailed notes will allow you to quickly develop a transcript for accessibility.
If you are using content from an existing lecture you may want to consider recording these in shorter segments. Research suggests that students are more likely to stay engaged with shorter videos, and that even in live lectures student attention can drift without opportunities to pause and re-engage. This does not require you to fully redesign your content and could be as simple as planning natural breaks in your recording, e.g. 10, 15, or 20 minute segments.
To help you prepare you can find useful information about making video content, including how to approach scripting, in our “How to make video content” series on Media Hopper or use the media production guide which includes scripting and storyboarding templates.
Licensing for any images, videos or other supplemental content is the responsibility of the user. We strongly advise users to consult the OER guidance regarding sourcing and creative commons licensing.
Arrive on time and make sure you've got your presentation with you or somewhere accessible online.
Unless specified in the booking and approved by the Educational Media Studio team we ask all staff to attend sessions alone.
