Questionmark Perception: Assessment Testing Checklist

Follow these steps to test your QuestionMark Perception Assessment.

1) First adjust your assessment to display the scores and feedback on submission (you can change these settings again before the assessment goes live).

In QuestionMark Authoring Manager: Edit your Assessment>

  • Assessment Feedback > Edit the ‘Assessment Feedback’ settings > Display Feedback to All questions
  • Assessment Outcome > Make sure the ‘Total Score’ box is checked

2) To check the scoring is behaving as you expect:

  • Sit the assessment and try to score 100%
  • Sit the assessment and try to score 0%

This method will usually pick up any anomalies with the scoring, which you can then resolve by editing the specific questions.

3) Check that any questions with multimedia, images or links display and work as expected.

4) Read over the text of the questions, reading them out-loud can be a good way to pick up errors.

5) Ask someone who was not involved in the writing the assessment to review it. If they are a subject expert they may be able to suggest alterations to the text, offer suggested additions to the feedback or even just spot typos or where the question wording is unclear.

6) Check that any randomised elements are behaving as you expect – i.e. choices are reordered if you take the test an extra time, or different questions from the folder are presented.

7) Check you have included a message that students will see on submission. If you don’t want your students to see a score on submission, it is useful to include a message like: Thank you, your results have been saved to the database. This can reassure students that their results have been saved – if you do not include a message the system will show a blank screen.

You can find this In QuestionMark Authoring Manager:

Edit your Assessment> Assessment Outcome > Feedback

8) Finally, once you are happy that the questions are scoring correctly, check the settings for feedback and displaying the score to students are set as you want them to be on the day.

9) Most QMP exams run successfully but it is sensible to have a contingency plan in case a major issue, such as a power outage, prevents your exam from running, especially if you need the assessment to be completed that day. You may want to bring a paper copy of the exam - which could be duplicated in the unlikely event that it is required.

Paper versions of an assessment can be generated from QMP Authoring Manager:

  •     In the assessments view Right click on the name of the assessment.
  •     Select "Print Assessment to Word".
  •     In the dialogue box that opens select “Print Question” then press “Print” to generate the print version – Note that rich media – such as video content will not be included in the print version.
  •     Your print version will open in WORD – and you should review this and may need to edit it to make sure that it is properly laid out and that you have an alternative for any rich media questions.
