Academic Blogging Service
How to use the Academic Blogging Service in an accessible way to enable you and your students to get the most from writing and sharing posts. This includes advice on content; visibility of posts; giving feedback; and guidance if blogs are assessed.
- For the content in any blog post: text, images, video etc., follow the advice in the Teaching Resources section.
- Web links: use a name that is meaningful, such that it gives a reasonable idea of where it would take someone if they clicked on the link, and if it opens in a new window.
- Be clear to students about why they are being asked to blog, and if it is optional or required.
- Provide guidance on format: Is it formal or informal? Is use of multimedia permitted or even encouraged? Do they need to use a formal referencing style?
- Let them know who can read their blog and if they have any control over its visibility.
- Give students information on if they can expect to receive feedback comments and, if so, how soon and how often.
- If posts are to be assessed, make sure students have had the opportunity to write posts and receive formative feedback before they post for summative assessment.
- If there is a marking criteria, share this before they start to post.
