The Educational Design and Engagement (EDE) Team provide a service across the whole University. Our primary focus is on supporting staff and students to make the best possible use of technology in teaching and learning.
Enriching the teaching and learning environment helps to improve the student learning experience and learning outcomes. We aim to provide informed choice in meeting dynamic educational needs and promoting the University globally. We contribute to teaching and learning in the areas below.
Senior team members contribute to University, College and School policy and strategic developments by providing expertise in leading technology adoption in higher education. All team members work with schools and individual staff to advise on and develop good practice in adopting technology-enhanced learning.
The IS Technology Enhanced Learning Strategy is regularly updated in consultation with Colleges, Schools and our service partners.
During the Academic Year 2015-16 we are planning a number of special events targeted at staff who would like to explore the opportunities offered by online technologies. These will be themed around current areas of interest, such as assessment, the flipped classroom, and using and creating open resources.
Some of these events will be open to all, others will be developed in collaboration with schools and colleges to ensure focus on local priorities.
We manage a number of core services, such as the Virtual Learning Environments Learn and Moodle, and various online assessment tools. Our management responsibilities include planning, integration, promotion and delivering training.
The rapid pace of change in this field means that we often pilot and evaluate tools and services. We also actively participate in a number of UK-wide projects and pilots.
We are happy to hear from staff who would be interested in becoming our partners in such pilots.
Current initiatives include:
Student information from VLEs (VLE Learner Analytics Project)
Investigating Learning Design
The Learning Technology Advisory Group co-ordinates twice yearly Horizon Scanning themed events, aimed at identifying and assessing the priority of emerging learning technology opportunities.
The EDE team supports this activity and compiles reports and recommendations as outcomes from the meetings.
If you would like to know more about the EDE Team's activities, visit the team's blog. Here we post news of meetings and events we have attended, projects, reading and research we want to share.
