Women in Red

A WikiProject focused on increasing representation of women on Wikipedia.

We run monthly Women in Red edit-a-thons at the university that anyone can participate by booking to attend on MyEd or via the Wikimedia in Scotland page. Feel free to suggest a collaboration as well.

Women in Red

Women in Red seek to address the gender imbalance on Wikipedia. It was founded in 2015 and every year works to increase the representation of women.

To do this, they host edit-a-thons around the world both virtually and in person. Here is there project page if you want to find out more and how to get involved in addressing the gender imbalance on Wikipedia. They also have a guide for how to add names to Women in Red lists which you can access.

Closing the Gender Gap | Wikimedia UK

Wikimedia UK is the national chapter for the global Wikimedia movement which supports Wikipedia and its sister sites. This video showcases the work of Wikimedia UK and the community of Wikimedians in the UK as they try to address gender bias and a lack of content on Wikipedia about women.

Over the last few years, many articles have been written about the #GenderGap on Wikipedia, with only a small proportion of Wikipedia editors being female, and less than 1/5th of biographical articles on the English Wikipedia being about women. Wikimedia UK aims to show what we have been doing to tackle this issue, and to encourage more people to get involved in reducing inequality and bias on Wikipedia and the broader internet.
