Data stewards and golden copy data
A golden copy is the authoritative source of a type of data, such as the student record. A data steward is the person who is responsible for looking after that data.
Data Stewards
A data steward is the person who is responsible for looking after a particular set of the University's administrative data.
They are responsible for:
- ensuring the security of the data
- providing access to the data for those that need it
- ensuring the data is accurate and up-to-date
Golden copy data
For each type of University data - such as student information- there is one system that holds the golden or reference copy of this information. Golden copy data is fed to other University systems to make use of it, but any updates must be made to the golden copy.
You can request access to golden copy data from the relevant data steward.
University staff can view our catalogue of golden copy data sources and the respective data stewards for them.
