Introduction

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a method of securing communications between your computer and another network.

It helps not only hide passwords from an eavesdropper, but also provides a degree of privacy, since it hides the content of your data.

Why is a VPN useful?

A VPN is particularly useful if you access the University network from home, a business trip, a conference or other non-work location using the public internet, or from the University wireless network.

It may also provide access to University resources normally inaccessible from outside of the University's network.

Which services require VPN/RDP and which do not?

NOTE: Please check the list of applications which can be accessed directly before using the VPN service. The VPN service is currently under a heavy load so please do not use it for services that don’t require it.

Pre-requisites

  1. Ensure your device has an active internet connection via a wired or wireless network.
  2. Register for the VPN Service
  3. Set up a VPN client on your device and connect
