Installing the Certificate in Windows Vista, 7 and 8
To install the certificate in Internet Explorer on Windows Vista and Windows 7 and Windows 8 please follow these instructions.
1. Remove old certificate
This step is only required if you've previously added the University of Edinburgh root certificate to your system.
From the Start menu go to the "Search Programs and Files" text box and type "certmgr.msc" then hit "Enter".
From the list on the left-hand side expand "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities" and click on "Certificates". Scroll down to "University of Edinburgh CA", right-click on it and select "Delete". Click "Yes" to confirm.
2. Download the certificate
When you click on the certificate (see link below) a window will open asking you if you want to download or open the file. Select Open this file from its current location and click on OK.
3. Install certificate
At this point a warning appears that a website wants to run content on your computer, and that a program will open outside of protected mode. The program is Crypto Shell Extensions and the publisher is Microsoft Windows. Click on Allow to continue.
4. Accept the certificate
Now you need to accept the certificate for use with various services. Please click on Next>.
5. Certificate Store selection
Select Place all certificates in the following store and click Browse. In the box that pops up choose Trusted Root Certification Authorities and click OK. Then click on Next>.
6. Finishing the install process
To finish click on Finish. You will see one final confirmation screen. Please confirm that the Subject says that it is issued to the The University of Edinburgh and that the Thumbprint (sha1) is:

Now click on Yes and a window saying that the certificate was installed should pop up. Click on OK when it does. You may now close the certificate window.
