Detailed voicemail set-up instructions
Step by step instructions for setting up your voicemail.
Please read right through these instructions before starting the first step. You may need to decide beforehand what you are going to say and do at certain points.
Remember that the 1 key means "yes", the 2 key means "no".
Please contact Telephone Operations to obtain a four-digit security code. You will be prompted to change this code later.
From the extension for which you wish to set up voicemail, dial 517000.
In response to the prompt "Please enter your personal security code", enter the four digits you were given in Step 1.
You will hear a welcome message, inviting you to "personalise your mailbox". First, you will be prompted to record your name. Please speak your first and last name, followed by the * (star) key.
You will now be invited to enter the first three letters of your last name, using the telephone keypad. (If your phone does not have letters on the keypad, the following table may be useful.) Entering this information may help with future voicemail facilities which may become available.
|1||2 = A B C||3 = D E F|
|4 = G H I||5 = J K L||6 = M N O|
|7 = P Q R S||8 = T U V||9 = W X Y Z|
You will now be asked whether you wish to be in the system's directory. You are recommended to enter 2 "no" at this prompt.
You will now be invited to record a greeting message which callers will hear. A suitable message might be "This is (your name). I am unable to answer your call at the moment, but please leave a message after the tone." When you have finished, press the * (star) key. Your message will be played back to you - if you want to change it, enter 1 "yes", otherwise enter 2 "no" to go to the next step.
You will now be invited to enter a new security code, which may be between 4 and 10 digits. When you have entered the code, press * (star). You will be asked to enter the code a second time as confirmation - remember to finish with the * (star) key.
Finally, you will be asked to confirm that you are satisfied with the setup. Press 1 for yes, 2 for no. If you press 1 "yes", your voice mailbox is now set up and ready for use, and you may hang up. If you press 2 "no", your mailbox will not be set up, and you will need to go through the procedure again.
