Celebrating the Global Impact of MOOCs

LTW celebrated the global reach and impact of the University's short online courses last week with an event at the Playfair Library.

Melissa Highton, Assistant Principal for Online and Open Learning, delivering a speech at the event

We were joined by course creators, external partners and the Consulate General of India (learners in India comprise our 2nd biggest global market for these courses) and heard inspirational stories from academic course leads, Melissa Highton, Assistant Principal for Online and Open Learning, and James Smith, Vice Principal International.

It was inspiring to hear about the immense value of these courses and the impact they have on lives around the world from Dave Reay from Geosciences, Tonks Fawcett from Health in Social Sciences and Pete Higgins and Kirsten Leask from Moray House. Dave Reay had pre-recorded his short talk which you can watch here.

We were delighted to also share news of our forthcoming Short Course Platform, which will bring together an expansive course catalogue, allowing short, non-credited course learners to quickly find the right courses for them, with an improved digital learning environment for those studying online or hybrid.
