Workshop presenters: delivering post-graduate training

The Data Library team played an ‘ambassadorial’ role three times in the last month.

Stuart Macdonald (Associate Data Librarian) was invited to participate in an online seminar series on research data management (RDM) on 24 November. The Programme was organised by Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología ( FECYT) - the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology - in collaboration with Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) and Recolector de Ciencia Abierta (RECOLECTA) - the network of Spanish repositories - and aimed at information professionals from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking academic institutions.

Stuart’s presentation, “Research data management at Edinburgh: effecting culture change” was presented (in English) as part of the Research Data Management Tools and Models strand.

Robin Rice (Data Librarian) led an interactive workshop preceding the International Digital Curation Conference in Bristol on 5 December, delivered by representatives of five UK and US projects on “Delivering post-graduate training in research data management.” The Research Data MANTRA online course was introduced along with other learning materials aimed at post-graduate data management skills from related training projects.

During the conference itself, Vice Principal Jeff Haywood gave an invited talk on “Taking care of the university’s research data.”

The previous week the Data Librarian was invited to co-lead a discussion on policy and training development for projects in the JISC Managing Research Data 2 Programme at the University of Nottingham, based on experience in Edinburgh, about getting a University data policy enacted.
