Blackboard Catalyst Award for Law and IS team

A team from the School of Law and Learning, Teaching and Web Services (LTW) has won a prestigious Blackboard Catalyst Award for Teaching & Learning for their work in transitioning the entire School portfolio of online postgraduate taught courses to Blackboard Learn.

LTW provided learning technology expertise working alongside colleagues from Law, and migration assistants were employed to carry out the manual transfer of content from the Law School bespoke VLE to the new courses in Learn.

Thousands of pages of content were transferred during the project and by completion, over 30 courses had been fully migrated, allowing for the successful delivery of six LLM degrees, one Postgraduate Certificate and two Continuing Professional Development modules from September last year.

Centrally supported VLE

The project was part of a three-year Programme to migrate all content and users using legacy systems (distance and on-campus, undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD) onto a centrally supported VLE. Moving to Blackboard Learn brings the Law School online programme in line with the rest of the School, providing a consistent user experience and facilitating cross-programme teaching. It allows the School to take advantage of centrally provided IS support, training, documentation and consultancy as well as improved service continuity and disaster recovery provision.

Blackboard Teaching & Learning Conference

The award was presented at the Teaching & Learning Conference in Newcastle on 16th May and received by Lucy Gaunt, Head of Postgraduate Programmes at the School of Law.
