Claire graduated with a Master of Informatics in 2021. In her second year we have asked her about her experience.
Year 1 Experience
I chose to study Informatics because it is a rapidly expanding sector where new innovations are made every day. There are many different opportunities and possible career paths. Technology has become an integral part of our society and I wish to learn about, and one day help create, the systems that can solve many of life’s issues.
The University has a large and highly regarded Informatics department. The wide range of courses available opens doors to explore new areas and discover a career that suits me best. The city itself is a beautiful place to live with an amazing atmosphere. When I came to the open day, I knew immediately that Edinburgh was a place where I would love to live.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many people from different cultures and backgrounds. The University has a very friendly and welcoming environment, and I’ve been able to talk to, and learn from, some amazing people from all around the world. I’ve joined the University’s taekwondo club. It takes up most of my week when I’m not studying, and is a great way to relieve stress and get fit. It’s very important to maintain a balance between your studies and your social life.
If you're thinking of coming to university my advice would be: try to keep up to date with all of your work, don’t fall behind, but don’t be afraid to join any clubs or societies too because they are a great way to make friends and have a good time.
In 2016/17, Claire was one of three women in the UK to be selected for the Amazon Women in Innovation Bursary.
