About Appleton Tower
A controversial building since its inception, it recently underwent a thorough refurbishment with a new entrance and enhanced facilities and services. It has been a home to School of Informatics since the Cowgate fire in 2002, and it’s currently used as our teaching base, while research has moved to the Informatics Forum.
30-minute tours will take place hourly at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm and must be booked in advance.
Tours will include demonstrations of the current research in the School of Informatics and will offer the opportunity to meet Marty the Robot , courtesy of Robotical, company set up by the School of Informatics alum, Sandy Enoch.
About Doors Open Day
Doors Open Day is a chance to explore some of Edinburgh’s architecturally and culturally significant buildings. From heritage landmarks to the city’s newest architecture, Doors Open Day offers free access to properties that are either not usually open to the public or would normally charge an entry fee. The event also offers the public an opportunity to find out more about the capital's public buildings.
Please note that Saturday 23rd September is also a University Open Day for prospective students and there will be stalls in the concourse of Appleton Tower.
