Professor Robertson has been Dean of Special Projects in the College since 2014 and, before that, he was Head of the University's School of Informatics.

He succeeds Professor Lesley Yellowlees as she stands down after six years as Vice-Principal and Head of College.

Professor Robertson’s research focuses on the coordination and sharing of knowledge using computational research.

He has worked on a range of projects that have produced theories that are now used across a number of academic disciplines and research areas.

Professor Robertson is a member of several strategy and advisory groups within Scotland and the UK, including the Farr Institute for medical data sharing.

Previously, as Head of School of Informatics, he worked with others to increase its research output and increase the School's standing in the world QS rankings for computing science departments.

He is a Fellow of the British Computing Society and chairs the executive of the UK Computing Research Committee.

The University’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Timothy O’Shea, said: “I warmly congratulate Dave on his appointment, which came after a rigorous recruitment process, and very much look forward to working with him in this new capacity.”
