Informatics 'Summer of Code'

Undergraduates are being offered an informal opportunity to improve their coding skills this summer.

Closely modelled on the Google Summer of Code, Informatics Summer of Code (ISoC) invites undergraduate students to take on a coding project and spend the summer working on it, under the guidance of a mentor.

Mentors may be professors, lecturers, post-graduate students or representatives from industry.

The informal initiative is organised by research postgraduate, Tom Spink and Reader, Dr Björn Franke, backed by our Institute for Computing Systems Architecture (ICSA) and industry sponsors.

ISoC’s website says:

“There's no limit on the type of coding projects that can be suggested - any programming language is fine, and projects can range in suitability from first-year undergraduates up to final year fourth or fifth years. It's also a good opportunity for mentors to flesh out their CV with an entry for innovative teaching.”

Anyone interested in taking part, please email Tom Spink or Björn Franke for more information.
