New Assistant Principal for Data Technology
Jon Oberlander, our Professor of Epistemics, has been appointed Assistant Principal for Data Technology.

Professor Oberlander will work closely with Professor Andrew Morris, Vice-Principal Data Science.
As well as being a member of our staff since 2000, when he became a lecturer in Informatics, Professor Oberlander is an alumnus of the School. He achieved his PhD in Cognitive Science here in 1987, held a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship (1987-90) and was a Research Associate (SERC Project Grant 1990-93).
Earlier this year, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Data technology strategy
Professor Oberlander new areas of responsibility include:
- Oversight of the University's data technology strategy.
- Establishing lasting interdisciplinary partnerships within and beyond the University.
Professor Oberlander is also Director of the new Data Technology Institute.
