Informatics Start-Up Secures Funding

Initially started up by the School of Informatics, FanDuel has just secured $70 million in funding.

The company, which was first started up in 2009, is a web-based fantasy sports premium game and the largest company in the relatively new Daily Fantasy Sports concept.

FanDuel’s mission is to transform the world of fantasy sports with daily games. They are passionate about the advantages the daily format has for players: super-charged excitement and competition, massive prizes, fast payouts and unbeatable game selection.

Originally a team of five people, including husband and wife team Lesley and Nigel Eccles and known as Hubdub, the start-up was supported by Informatics Ventures at the School of Informatics to develop the fantasy game idea.

Since then the company has expanded significantly- with offices in Edinburgh and New York and recently attracting investment of over $70million dollars, making it one of the highest funded UK start ups to date.
