Former Researcher Receives Friendship Award from China
Rolf Mueller, Virginia Tech Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and former Visiting Researcher at the School of Informatics, has received a Friendship Award from China.
The Friendship Award of the People's Republic of China is considered China's highest honor for "foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to the country's economic and social progress."
The vice-premier of China, Zhang Dejiang, made the presentation to Mueller during a ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Mueller was also the invited guest at a reception and state banquet of China's Premier Wen Jiabao to celebrate the National Day of the People's Republic of China.
Mueller was praised for his involvement in the opening of a new international laboratory based at Shandong University in eastern China which is focused on bio-research.
