Rooke Medal for Prof Chris Bishop

Professor Chris Bishop, a member of the Institute for Adaptive and Neural Computation (IANC) at the School of Informatics has been awarded a prestigious Rooke Medal Award by the Royal Academy of Engineering for his "persistent drive" in engaging members of the public in the vital work of engineers and their contribution to society.

Based in Cambridge, Prof Bishop has a Chair in Computer Science at Edinburgh University and holds a fellowship at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Praised for his promotion of computer science through novel demonstrations, interactive websites and videos, perhaps Prof. Bishop's most prominent example of public outreach has been the ever popular Christmas Lectures.

Prof. Bishop is said to be ''truly honoured'' by the award.
