October 2013: Dr Steve Jenkins awarded MRC New Investigator Research Grant

Congratulations to Dr Steve Jenkinswho has been awarded an MRC New Investigator Research Grant.

He will investigate ‘The parameters of tissue-resident macrophage autonomy’.  

Until recently, tissue macrophages were thought to be sustained by the recruitment and differentiation of blood monocytes. However, emerging evidence has shown that following birth resident macrophages in many tissues have little input from blood monocytes or other bone marrow derived cells. This project will dissect the mechanisms by which resident macrophages are maintained in the steady-state and under inflammatory conditions, and determine if their autonomy is limited by their regenerative capacity.
