Centre for Inflammation Research

Congratulations to Professor Adriano Rossi

December 2012: Professor Adriano Rossi awarded an MRC Programme Grant

Congratulations to Professor Adriano Rossi and co-applicant Prof. Chris Haslett.

Their new MRC programme grant will investigate 'The Role of Cyclin-Dependent Kinase-9 Inhibition in Promoting the Resolution of Chronic Inflammation'.

Having shown that cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor drugs induce resolution in acute inflammation and have similar potential in chronic inflammatory conditions, it isĀ  hypothesised that CDK9 is pivotal in maintaining chronic inflammation. The programme of work will employ models of inflammation to investigate CDK inhibitor drugs targeting CDK9 to promote the resolution of chronic inflammatory/scarring diseases of the lungs and other organs. This, together with studies using human inflammatory macrophages, will provide a platform for drug discovery for the treatment of chronic inflammatory/scarring diseases.
