Children's Clinical Research Facility
The Children’s Clinical Research Facility (CCRF) is the first Accredited Phase I unit in Scotland and is embedded within the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh.
This provides an optimal setting in which to conduct children’s research. The CCRF offer a controlled and child friendly environment where children can undergo research programmes safely and effectively according to robust ethically approved protocols. Furthermore, the research facility is within easy access to the main wards and emergency facilities to ensure patient safety.
CCRF Goals
- Provide a high quality, safe clinical environment.
- Provide a range of central resources to support clinical researchers.
- Provide expert advice and assistance to clinical staff undertaking research.
- Provide clinical research governance infrastructure.
The work so far
The CCRF saw its first research participant on 16th February 2009 and from there it has continued to grow. The CCRF now have a dedicated team of nursing and clinical staff working on a large portfolio of Phase I, First-in-human, CTIMP and non-clinical trials.
The CCRF has participated in research to improve treatment for children with conditions including Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiolitis, Cleft Lip and Palate, Rheumatoid Disease, Thrombocytopenia, Crohns, Epilepsy and Neurological conditions, Nasal Flu Vaccine and Allergies.
