India beyond the Old and New Towns

India in the suburbs and Leith

As the 19th century went on, India links could be found in the new suburbs -- the Grange, Inverleith, Merchiston, Morningside -- and Leith went from being just Edinburgh's port to becoming an integral part of the city by the 1930s.

Dean and Grange cemeteries have many memorials to people with India connections.

Some more ideas for visits, and more resources that link to the 'outer circle' of the city, will be added asap.
