Information for members of staff who are eligible to add their details onto the Talent Register.
You may add your details to the register, if you are a University of Edinburgh employee who is actively seeking redeployment due to one of the following:
A. you are at risk of redundancy, i.e. you have received a letter from your College or Professional Services HR Team informing you that you are at risk and advising you of your eligibility for the Talent Register (which may be due to the premature ending of a fixed-term contract), see the Guidance for Employees at Risk of Redundancy document for details;
B. you are seeking redeployment due to health/disability reasons, following notification from your College or Professional Services HR Team;
C. you have been notified by a member of your HR Team that your post has been ‘Red Circled’ i.e. your job has been regraded resulting in a lower salary, see the Pay Protection Policy for details.
Since the Talent Register process does not meet the advertising requirements needed to apply for a certificate of sponsorship (CoS), sponsored workers are not eligible for the Talent Register. In certain circumstances where an existing CoS holder is transferring to a new post in the same area of work with the same responsibilities it may be possible for the University to extend the existing CoS to allow the person to take up the new role. How to add your details to the Talent Register
Please note that you should only register if you are actively seeking redeployment after receiving confirmation of your eligibility for redeployment from your College/Professional Services HR Team and you are available to accept other work within the next few months.
1. Click on the link below to download the Talent Register Template.
2. Complete all of the fields as follows, you will only need to submit one line of information:
Columns A-F: Personal Details
|Column A – Employee Number - this can be found on your Staff ID card or payslip.|
|Columns B to E – Personal Details – insert your personal information relating to the header title.|
|Column F – Reason for Seeking Redeployment – select from the drop down list the reason you are seeking redeployment.|
Columns G-P: Current Employment Details
|Column G – College/Professional Service – select your current College/Professional Service from the drop-down list.|
|Column H – School/Department – select your current School/ Department from the drop-down list.|
|Column I – Work Location – select the campus where your current post is located from the drop-down list. If it is not on the drop-down list, please enter it on the row below.|
|Column J – Current Job Type – select from the drop-down list.|
|Column K – Academic Research Specialism (if applicable) – select the relevant area from the drop-down list. If your specialism is not on the list, please enter it on the row below.|
|Column L – Current Grade – select your current grade from the drop-down list. For red-circled staff, this is your pay protected grade.|
|Column M – Current Work Pattern – select from the drop down list to indicate if your contract is currently for full- time hours or part-time.|
|Column N – Guaranteed Hours – select Y or N from the drop-down list.|
|Column O – Current Hours per Week - insert the number of hours you are currently working.|
|Column P – Contract End Date – enter your expected end date if you are on a fixed term contract. If your post has been red-circled or if you are applying for medical redeployment, please leave blank.|
Columns Q-R: Summary of Skills
|Column Q – Summary of Current Position – Give a brief description of your current tasks and responsibilities. Use key words that will be easy to find in a search and specific reference to University programmes, such as BI Suite, Oracle, Euclid, etc.|
|Column R – Summary of Skills/Experience – insert a brief summary of your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience. Try not to copy your entire CV as it makes it difficult for Recruiters to read through.|
3. Once the spreadsheet is complete, email the Redeployment Team with a copy of the spreadsheet, a PDF version of your CV and the reason you are eligible for the register (redundancy, medical redeployment, re-circling). Your CV will be forwarded on to recruiting managers who submit a request for your details.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your information is up to date and accurate. If your circumstances change, you should email the Redeployment Team as soon as possible so that the register can be updated.
There is a maximum length of time your details can remain on the Talent Register:
- If you are at risk of redundancy, your information will stay on the Talent Register until your expected end date;
- If your current post has been red-circled, you are eligible for access for up to three years, starting from your effective date;
- For those seeking medical redeployment, you will have access to the register for a maximum of six months from your effective date.
If you have been successfully redeployed, we will remove your details from the Talent Register. We will also continue to audit the list and will remove those who no longer fit one of the above criterion.
Recruiters can access the Talent Register when recruiting for a vacancy. Your registered CV will be sent to those recruiters who request this using the assigned Talent Register ID number.
The recruiter will then have an opportunity to assess whether or not your details meet the essential criteria of the vacancy based on the information provided on your CV. If there appears to be a match, the recruiter will get in touch directly with you to find out if you are interested in the post. You will be sent a job description and if you are interested you will be asked to note your interest and possibly be asked to provide an application statement detailing how you meet the requirements of the job.
The recruiter will then make the arrangements for interview. If you are offered the position and accept, please make sure to notify the Redeployment Team so that we can update your record. The University reserves the right to remove staff from the Talent Register once employment has ended.
Once your details have been removed from the list your CV will also be removed from our files.
