Demonstrating your Right to Work

Prior to any employment commencing with the University you will be asked to provide documents to demonstrate your right to work in the UK. These pages give information about the documents you need to show to the University to confirm you have the right to work. Without valid documents, the University is not able to employ you.

Please note that a new immigration system was introduced on 1 January 2021. This applies to non-EEA citizens and EEA/Swiss citizens who were not resident in the UK before 31 December 2020.  From 1 July 2021, EEA/Swiss nationals must present either a status through the EU Settlement Scheme, Frontier Worker Permit or a visa through the immigration system.

Right to work checks are not required when current employees are transferring or taking additional roles within the University. 

You already have the right to work in the UK

Information for UK/Irish citizens, those with settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and those who hold indefinite leave to remain/settled status in the UK.

You have a time-limited right to work in the UK

Information for Individuals who have a time-limited right to work in the UK, i.e. their visa/pre-settled status has an expiry date.

You do not currently have the right to work in the UK

Information for non-UK/Irish citizens who do not have the right to work in the UK and would need to apply for and obtain a visa to do so.

International applicants visiting the UK for an interview

If you are a non-UK/Irish national you may need a visa to attend an interview in the UK.
