Find out about employment support available for school pupils and young people at the University of Edinburgh.
We currently employ over 13,000 staff ranging from academic to administrative support roles, across many key employment sectors. As the third largest employer in Edinburgh we are ideally placed to offer you a fantastic start to your career.
We are developing our engagement activities with local schools and are working with a national charity, Career Ready, who link schools with employers to help prepare young people for work. A number of staff at the University act as mentors over a two-year period, and provide a four-week work placement for the young people.
We have also started working with the JET Academy, run by Edinburgh Council, to support pupils in the senior phase of High School. It combines school education with work experience.
It is sometimes hard to find your first job or to get the training needed. The University is committed to providing employment opportunities through a variety programmes.

- The University has an apprenticeship programme that is open to any young person interested in working at the University. You will earn a good salary and learn through on-the-job training. - New for 2017 is a 15 month Graduate Trainee Scheme (managed by Ambitious Futures) starting in September 2017. Applications are now closed.
- Internships are available to students from the University via the Careers Service’s Employ.ed programmes.
