Relocating with Pets

Bringing pets to the UK and regulations around having them in a rented property.



Most animals can now be imported into the UK, provided that you meet the guidelines issued. Your pet may have to spend up to 4 months in quarantine, if you are unable to provide the information requested. The advice varies depending on the type of animal you a bringing to the UK, but it is most likely that you will need to:

  • Have your pet microchipped
  • Have your pet vaccinated against rabies
  • Get pet travel documentation
  • Have your pet travel on an authorised route with an approved transport company

You should note that it is common for rental property tenancy agreements to specify that no pets are allowed to be kept in the property. If you intend to bring a pet with you to the UK, you should check that this is acceptable to the property landlord or property letting agent.
