Demonstrating your Right to Work

Prior to any employment commencing with the University you will be asked to provide documents to demonstrate your right to work in the UK. These pages give information about the documents you need to show to the University to confirm you have the right to work. Without valid documents, the University is not able to employ you.

Please note that a new immigration system was introduced on 1 January 2021. This applies to non-EEA citizens and EEA citizens who were not resident in the UK before 31 December 2020.  

Right to work checks are not required when current employees are transferring or taking additional roles within the University. 

You already have the right to work in the UK

Information for UK/EEA/Swiss citizens who have an ongoing right to work in the UK and those who hold indefinite leave to remain in the UK. Please note this information applies to all EEA/Swiss citizens who were resident in the UK before 31 December 2020.

You have a time-limited right to work in the UK

Information for non-EEA citizens and EEA/Swiss citizens who were not resident in the UK before 31 December 2020 who have a time-limited right to work in the UK, i.e. their visa has an expiry date.

You do not currently have the right to work in the UK

Information for non-EEA citizens and EEA/Swiss citizens who were not resident in the UK before 31 December 2020 who do not have the right to work in the UK and would need to apply for and obtain a visa to do so.

International applicants visiting the UK for an interview

If you are a non-EEA national you may need a visa to attend an interview in the UK.
