Helena McNish is a graduate student at University College London.
Research skills are so key, both for my future career and my current postgraduate degree, and I feel my degree really helped to develop these skills to an independent and confident level.
History had been my passion through school, and it made sense to follow that up to university. I chose Edinburgh because it would mean moving away from home to a beautiful city with lots to offer both as a university and a home. Edinburgh itself (and Scotland!) is such a fantastic place to live.
What specific skills did I develop whilst studying? Research, time management, organisation, and a love of the discipline of history! And I really enjoyed being part of the History Society, and the vibrant groups it sponsors.
I’ve been serious about going into publishing since but increasingly I'm thinking about going back into academia.
