What attracted you to the University of Edinburgh and this programme, in particular?

The fact that it was local to me was a big pro for me, as a mature student. But also, because the history and Asian studies departments are some of the bests in Scotland.

What do you wish you'd worried about less about coming to university?

Fitting in as a mature student amongst school leavers.

What one thing would you recommend new students at the University of Edinburgh do?

Get in touch with the student disability service as soon as possible after you accept your offer if you have any sort of disability and need adjustments. Even if you don’t think you might need them, it’s always better to have them in place and not use them, rather than needing them and having to wait to get them in place later.

What aspects of student life do you enjoy the most and why?

Participating in societies. I’m part of the Retrospect Journal team and I’m really enjoying writing for them and getting to meet others with the same interest in history.

What do you find most challenging and most rewarding about your programme?

Navigating it with my disability is a challenge, but the uni has done a good job at trying to mitigate it as much as possible. The most rewarding is managing the course load with my disability and as a mature student that can’t only concentrate on school.

What's a 'must do' at the University of Edinburgh?

Joining a society! Though don’t feel pressured to join in your first year, take your time and don’t needlessly fill your schedule in F.O.M.O.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of studying at the University of Edinburgh?

If you have a physical disability, think accessibility and get in touch with the admissions teams about it. Edinburgh itself can sometimes be challenging due to its historical nature, so it’s not always the most accessible of cities.
