Research seminars

The School offers an American History seminar and workshop series, as well as round table events and a reading group.

The ArchSoc Archaeology seminars provide an opportunity for discussion of current research developments on a range of archaeological themes from diverse chronological and geographical areas. The seminars are open to all.

The Centre for Late Antique, Islamic and Byzantine Studies seminars combine select sessions of the Classics, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies and History of Christianity Research seminars with the Byzantine Studies seminars. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Centre for the Study of Modern and Contemporary History is the University of Edinburgh's leading centre for research into the history of the modern world. It's seminar series welcomes everyone.

The Classics research seminars provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and the promotion of new research and debate among the research community, both within and outside the University. All are welcome. 

The Centre hosts a seminar series which takes place throughout the academic year and is open to staff, students and the general public.

The Edinburgh Centre for Global History Graduate Workshops provide an excellent  opportunity  for  doctoral  students and early career researchers to meet and discuss their research in an informal setting. They take place throughout the academic year and are open to all.

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology hosts seminars throughout the academic year, which are open to all.

The First Millennia Studies Group (FMSG) is a discussion forum for all aspects of archaeology in the first millennia BC and AD in Scotland and beyond. FMSG is open to anyone interested in the time period and the theories and methods of its study. The Committee hopes it offers a useful forum for trying, developing and discarding ideas at a live event; a testing ground, which we feel cannot be achieved by a more anonymous online audience and the possibility of being recorded. This distinguishes FMSG from other research seminars.

The Histories of Gender and Sexuality seminar series runs regularly throughout the academic year. Seminars are open to all.

The History of Science, Medicine and Technology Group seminars take place throughout the academic year and are open to all.

Medieval History seminars take place throughout the academic year and are open to staff, students and the general public.

The Modern Irish History research seminars take place throughout the academic year and are open to all.

You are warmly invited to join the Postgraduate Prehistory Reading Group — an informal, interdisciplinary forum for discussing all aspects of global prehistory.

The Scottish History research seminars take place throughout the academic year and are open to all.

The Student Seminar Series is co-organised by Edinburgh University History Society and Retrospect Journal. It is a student-led initiative that gives students at all levels of study at Edinburgh an opportunity to present short papers on their research.
