Support for Early Career Staff

The school provides a number of services for early career academic staff.

Mentoring

All post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, new members of staff and any other interested members of staff can select a mentor with whom they can discuss the development of their research.

This relationship between the research mentor and mentee is confidential, entirely separate from and unrelated to any programme of staff appraisal, and is shaped by the needs of the mentee. It is recommended that at least two meetings are held each year.

Post New Club

The Post New Club (PNC) is a forum for all early-career researchers and lecturers within three years of their first appointment.

It aims to promote dialogue across the three subject areas that make up our school, linking together research on a wide variety of periods and places as well as reflecting on connections with the present.

PNC organises a number of seminars each semester using a variety of formats. Members also organise a small number of all-day workshops that bring together internal and external speakers to discuss topics and themes from multi-disciplinary perspectives.
