‘Colouring the Nation’ in the Scottish Parliament

The ‘Colouring the Nation’ project team recently held an exhibition in the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood, with sponsorship from Jackie Baillie MSP for Dumbarton.

The exhibition in the MSPs’ area of the building, adjacent to the debating chamber, highlighted research on the 19th-century ‘Turkey red’ printed cotton textile industry.

The industry sustained extensive employment in Dunbartonshire until the mid-20th century.

Professor Stana Nenadic and David Harvie, local historian from Dumbarton, were in attendance to brief government ministers, MSPs and Holyrood staff about the Royal Society of Edinburgh-funded project and its community and business engagement dimensions.
