Social Responsibility and Sustainability: First meeting

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is pleased to announce the introduction of an annual, student-led theme in Social Responsibility and Sustainability. (Published 17 November, 2017)

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology wants to work with students to think about the big issues of today. It is seeking Undergraduate and Postgraduate volunteers to help us set up a series of events on campus and on-line for the next academic year, 2018/17. We'll be hosting a first meeting this Wednesday,  22 November, at 17.00 in the UG Common Room to discuss topics and a plan of action.

Dr Mijers, Director of Undergraduate Studies, said ‘ We hope that this will be an opportunity for students to explore some of the big issues that affect us all, in the context of their studies. History, Classics and Archaeology are all equally affected by and relate to issues of social responsibility and sustainability, from citizenship in the Roman Republic to the effects of climatic conditions on archaeological sites, and the history of racism, to name but a few examples. Academic subjects is a lot more topical than we sometimes think!’
