Scottish Government funds major conference

The Scottish Government has awarded £37,000 to the SCDS to help support a two-day conference during the next Year of Homecoming in July 2014 with the title 'The Global Migrations of the Scottish People: Issues, Debates and Controversies'.

A special objective of the event will be to engage the general public and the national media with 'state of the art' research in this vibrant field of study, presented by the very best scholars working on the subject from across the world, including colleagues from universities in Europe, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India and the West Indies.

This is another important stage in the Government's developing relationship with SCDS. It has already funded three postdoctoral fellowships and a PhD scholarship in the Centre from January 2012.
