Irish Minister visits Diaspora Centre

The Scottish Centre for Diaspora Studies recently hosted a meeting with the Irish Government’s Minister of State for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan TD. (Published 6 May, 2015)

Minister Deenihan, on an official visit to Scotland, was keen to hear about the work of the Centre and about diaspora studies in Scotland, with a view to exploring how the Irish Government and academic institutions might support and develop excellence in the field.

The Director of the Centre, Dr Nuala Zahedieh introduced the event, which took place on 23 April, and staff and postgraduate students from the Centre provided a range of presentations covering historical analyses of Scottish and Irish global diasporas as well as research into diaspora heritage and governmental policy.

The event was also attended by the Consul General of Ireland, Pat Bourne.
