Lecturer in American history, Dr David Silkenat has been awarded the North Caroliniana Society Book Prize for his book 'Driven from Home: North Carolina's Civil War Refugee Crisis' (University of Georgia Press, 2016). The Prize recognizes that the book “captures the essence of North Carolina by contributing powerfully to an understanding of the state” and likely to become "a classic volume of North Caroliniana”.
Dr Silkenat will receive the award at the North Caroliniana Society's annual meeting in May 2017. He is the first person to receive this prize twice, having previously won for 'Moments of Despair: Suicide, Divorce, and Debt in Civil War Era North Carolina' (University of North Carolina Press, 2011).
Dr Silkenat said, "I am deeply honored to receive this award and humbled that my work has twice been recognized by the North Caroliniana Society."
The School of History, Classics and Archaeology send its warmest congratulation to Dr Silkenat on his achievement.
