Dr Llewellyn-Jones engagement work honoured

Dr Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones was presented the award for Best Engagement Initiative in the Wider Community for his role in helping to develop, support, and maintain the Edinburgh-Iranian Festival, a cultural highlight of the city's life, held every two years.

Celebrating the Iranian community in Scotland

The Edinburgh-Iranian Festival, founded in 2005, was noted by the judging panel for its success in engaging and celebrating the Iranian community in Scotland.

Through the broadcasting of the festival on Persian-speaking television, Dr Llewellyn-Jones has significantly enhanced the profile of Ancient Persian Studies at Edinburgh and communicated research on Ancient Persia in an accessible way.

It’s a great privilege, an honour and a real surprise. I’m very grateful to those who nominated me and to my head of department for cutting me the slack to do these communal events. But most of all I’m grateful to the community of Iranians who live in Edinburgh, Scotland and the UK as a whole. They’re a brilliant people. This award is for them, not me.

Celebrating excellence

Dr Llewellyn-Jones , who is also a School of History, Classics and Archaeology Impact Champion, is one of five staff from the College of Humanities & Social Science to be honoured.

A prize-giving ceremony took place in the Playfair Library on Friday 4 October, where winners were awarded £3,000 each to put towards their personal and professional development.

Annual awards

The new College Recognition Awards, which will be annual, celebrate excellence in enhancing teaching, mentoring colleagues, external engagement and collegiality.
