American Studies book prize

An American History lecturer in the School has collected the runner-up award in a recent American studies book prize. (Published 23 May 2014)

Congratulations to Dr Fabian Hilfrich, Senior Lecturer in American History, who has received the runner-up award in the biannual American Studies Network Book Prize.

Dr Hilfirch received the award for his book ‘Debating American Exceptionalism: Empire and Democracy in the Wake of the Spanish-American War’, which focuses on the internal debates and ideological tensions within the shared ideology of American exceptionalism.

Judges in the competition described Dr Hilfirch’s analyses as insightful and illuminating.

[Hilfrich’s] conclusion is a thought-provoking and insightful assessment of contemporary American and global politics.
