Dr Crowcroft awarded knowledge exchange grant

Dr Robert Crowcroft, Lecturer in Contemporary History in the School, has recently been awarded a Knowledge Exchange grant to support his engagement with policy-makers and opinion-formers.

Big Ben - Palace of Westminster

The aim of the project is to take academic work and use it to engage with those at the coalface in public affairs. The original research will appear as an essay called ‘From Burke to Burkha’ in Jason Edwards (ed.) Reclaiming the Big Society (forthcoming, 2012). An event is being organised by Dr Crowcroft, as part of the project. Strategies for a Conservative Multiculturalism is an event being held at St Stephen’s Club in Westminster, on the evening of Wednesday 24 October, 2012. Its purpose is to leverage academic research in this area to engage with a major public policy issue. St Stephen’s is a popular venue for political events and was where David Cameron made his ‘big, open, and comprehensive offer’ to the Liberal Democrats in 2010. The event will bring together leading politicians and opinion-formers from the press and think-tanks to debate the problem. Baroness Warsi, chairperson of the Conservative party and the first Muslim woman to be a Cabinet minister, will act as the keynote speaker.
