Literacy through Latin seeks volunteers
The Literacy Through Latin scheme run by the Classics Society is seeking volunteers to work with primary school pupils.
If you'd like to share Latin with primary school students in Edinburgh then the Classics society wants to hear from you! It is is looking for volunteers for its Literacy through Latin programme for the 2019/20 year. This is an entirely student led scheme so reliable, enthusiastic, and committed students need only apply.
Helping in local schools is a rewarding and enriching experience, and can make a real difference in the lives of young children. The scheme is currently working with three primary schools in Edinburgh (Bruntsfield, Guilemuir, and Liberton), and will be teaching seven different classes in total - so a minimum of 14 volunteers is required. Volunteers commit to teaching weekly lessons over the course of the autumn to spring terms and the team meets weekly during the term to coordinate their lessons. A curriculum of lessons on the Latin language and ancient culture is already prepared.
Volunteers will be teaching in P6 classrooms (ages 10–11), and will be teaching in pairs. No teaching experience required as you'd be partnered with someone who does. As you will be teaching extremely basic Latin, minimal knowledge of the language is required, so Latin 1A students are also more than welcome!
If you would like to apply for this opportunity please complete the very short form below, or if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to email the coordinator of the scheme, Kishan (firstname.lastname@example.org).
