A discussion of Scotland past and present

Professor Tom Devine and Dr Gordon Brown MP discuss Scotland’s past and Scotland’s present in a celebratory event marking the retirement of Professor Devine.

Event description

As a farewell to mark the retirement of Professor Tom Devine, the University will host an evening of debate surrounding Scotland’s past and Scotland’s present.

A discussion will be followed by a question and answer session and book signings with Dr Gordon Brown MP, former Prime of the UK and double alumnus in History at Edinburgh, and Professor Tom Devine OBE Hon MRIA FRSE FBA, Personal Senior Research Professor in History.

The event will be introduced by the Principal, Professor Sir Timothy O'Shea and the discussion will be chaired by Jim Naughtie, broadcaster and journalist.

This event, which marks 45 years of academic service by Professor Devine at three Scottish universities and his imminent farewell to the University of Edinburgh, comes at a historic time for the Scottish nation.
