School of History, Classics & Archaeology

CFP - Northern Lights workshop

The event will be hosted by the School of History, Classics, and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh, in association with the Universities of St. Andrews and Glasgow, on 26th April 2019, and participation will be free for everyone. We invite research students in Ancient History to submit proposals for papers. Each paper should last approximately 20 minutes, and will be followed by a further 10 minutes for questions. Topics can cover any area or period of Ancient History, including the history and historiography of Classical Greece and Rome, the ancient Near East and Egypt, Late Antiquity and the Byzantine Empire, and of comparable periods of world history. Please send your proposals to the following email address: northernlightsedinburgh@gmail.com

Abstracts should be 250 words, and include the following information:

- provisional title

- student name

- institutional and departmental affiliation

- email address.

The deadline for submission is Monday 21st January 2019. Final decisions, and details about the registration process, will be communicated by the end of January.

Owing to the interactive nature of the workshop, all event participants – whether giving a paper or not – are invited to present their projects in a condensed three-minute presentation (similar to a ‘three-minute thesis’) in order to receive feedback and foster new research networks with peers in related fields. We aim to create a welcoming environment, in order to encourage the formation of a collaborative community of Ancient History researchers.
