Angels in Early Medieval England (Oxford University Press) by Dr Richard Sowerby has been shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society Whitfield Prize. (Published 12 May 2017)

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is pleased to announce that Early Medieval Insular History lecturer, Dr Richard Sowerby's book 'Angels in Early Medieval England' has been shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society Whitfield Prize, awarded annually for Best First Book in British or Irish History.
'It's an enormous honour to have been shortlisted for the Whitfield Prize. There were moments when I was working on the book when I thought that no-one other than myself would ever be interested in my odd little corner of the Middle Ages,’ said Dr Sowerby. ‘To be shortlisted for such a prestigious award is more than I could ever have hoped for.'
The winner of the prize, and £1000, will be announced at the Royal Historical Society’s annual reception on Friday 7 July 2017.
