History at Edinburgh

History at Edinburgh is internationally renowned for the breadth and depth of staff teaching and research interests.

The History department has successfully maintained this diversity and quality with a large number of recent appointments. It is the largest of the School’s three subject-areas, with over 50 full-time academics involved in undergraduate teaching.

Our lecturers are an international group, with individuals hailing from Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the USA and of course from Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Their teaching is supported and complemented by high-calibre graduate and post-doctoral tutors from around the world.

Our student population of about 800 is no less international.

We have seven internal honours programmes and 22 ‘combined’ programmes shared with other disciplines.
