Alumni of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology

How you can get involved

Find practical ways for alumni to get involved in the work of the School and the University.

HCA Mentoring Programme

Within the School we offer students a mentoring programme – matching 2nd and 3rd students to mentors with a background in History, Classics and Archaeology working in fields the students are interested in entering. This can be done in person or at a distance, and we would love to include as many alumni as possible in this programme. If you would like more information please see the link below and consider getting in touch.

I was in a very similar position to the young women I mentored when I was at Uni. My parents didn't go to Uni and their jobs were admin/construction - I always felt that I didn't really know what jobs were out there, because I wasn't exposed to graduate level jobs growing up... I think it's so important, and especially for those students who are first generation to attend Uni, to have contact with workplaces and know how their skills and degrees can be used within the workplace.

The Insights Programme

There are many barriers - social, financial, cultural, or geographical - which can affect a person’s aspirations and trajectory in life. The |School and the University is committed to addressing these barriers which cause educational inequalities and under-representation in Higher Education through Widening Participation. The Insights Programme helps widening participation students develop the confidence, skills and connections to consider a range of careers through introductions to Edinburgh alumni working in an exciting range of sectors and environments.
