Postgraduate Students

Resources

As an MSc by Research student in History you will form part of a large and vibrant scholarly community of historians and benefit from the research resources available in the University and the city of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh boasts impressive library facilities for graduate students in history. In addition to the University Library, there is the nearby National Library of Scotland, a copyright library with extensive collections of both primary and secondary sources in a wide range of historical fields. Many graduate students also find other local repositories, such as the Scottish National Archives, to be invaluable resources while researching their dissertations.

Research students in History play an active role in our research community. Research seminars, reading groups and workshops bring together postgraduate students and academic staff in both formal and informal settings. This scholarly community supports a lively programme of regular seminars, lectures, and other special events, ranging from the Histories of Gender and Sexuality Research Group and the American History Workshop to the Scottish History Seminar and the Edinburgh Seminar in Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
