Programme structure

The taught MSc in Scottish History offers you the opportunity to study history at an advanced level through taught courses and independent research.

The MSc lasts 12 months from September to August the following year. There are two semesters of taught courses: September to December and January to April. You then write a dissertation, with individual supervision for your chosen project, between April and August. A diploma option is also available, which includes only the taught courses.

Taught courses

You will take several courses across two semesters of teaching, including two compulsory courses and four optional courses.

Dissertation

You will undertake a research project and produce a dissertation which is submitted on an assigned date in mid-August.
